Сажетак
Рад је аналитички приказ поетичко-политичких расправа које су у америчкој књижевности, превасходно на страницама периодичних публикација, вођене током назначеног периода. Након уводног осврта на специфичности америчког уметничког и идеолошког радикализма, као и трију општих напомена (о коришћеним изворима, нехомогеној природи левице и њеној постепеној културализацији), издвајају се три раздобља у историји деловања левo oпредељенe књижевне интелигенције у САД, те тумаче парадигматична збивања унутар сваког од њих. У закључку се износе разлози због којих је то деловање било неуспешно и самоукидајуће.
