The Weakness of the Spirit Before the Law of the Land
Snežana Milojević. Zakon zemlje [The Law of the Land]. Novi Sad: Akademska knjiga, 2020, 189 pp.
Abstract
Snežana Milojević's monograph Law of the land, as the author herself states in the preface, was created as a collection of her already published studies united by a common theme in reference anthologies and scientific journals. Published on the occasion of the centenary of reading the works of our Nobel laureate, this scientific synthesis sheds light, first of all, on the status of female characters in Andrić's work, along with the methodological apparatus of contemporary literary theories. Although she is skeptical about the contemporary approach to the work of a modernist, Snežana Milojević shows in her studies the argumentative justification of the theses she advocates. One of the leitmotifs, which already appears in the book's title, indicates man's predisposition to fall towards the earth, which is "looking for its own," which the author herself, quoting Andrić, will repeat in several places in her monograph.
